Dr. Hakan Toka
Dr. Hakan Toka graduated from the reputable Charite Medical School in Berlin, Germany, in 1997 with MD and PhD degrees. He then joined the laboratory of Dr. Richard Lifton at Yale School of Medicine to study the genetics of hypertension. He completed Internal Medicine training at the University of Massachusetts, where he received the Primary Care Award for excellent patient care. He completed his Nephrology specialty training at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and was recognized as Hypertension Specialist by the American Society of Hypertension in 2014, before moving to Florida to join the Manatee Kidney Diseases Consultants.
Dr. Toka is a compassionate board-certified nephrologist and clinical researcher. He is a Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials, concerning kidney disease related conditions. As Associate Program Director for Internal Medicine at Manatee Memorial Hospital (MMH), he is actively involved in teaching residents and students in Manatee County. He is currently Chief of Medicine at MMH among other leadership positions.
In his free time, Dr. Toka is an avid soccer player, enjoys biking, running, and hiking. He is interested in nutritional supplements, and enjoys cooking and watching documentaries.
Dr. Lina Frauenfeld
Dr. Lina Frauenfeld is a dedicated nephrologist with a deep passion for kidney health that began in her teenage years when her grandmother underwent peritoneal dialysis. Originally from Colombia, she earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of South Florida before attending Ross University School of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at Manatee Memorial Hospital and pursued a nephrology fellowship at UF Health Shands Hospital.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Frauenfeld enjoys baking, spending time with her children and four dogs, and making cherished memories at Disney.
Dr. Jennifer Bala
Dr. Jennifer Bala grew up in the Tampa Bay area. She did her undergraduate studies at the university of Miami, followed by medical school at the University of South Florida. She did her internal medicine and nephrology training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is double boarded in internal medicine and nephrology. She has been with MKDC since 2008. She serves on various Hospital committees and is currently a member of the medical executive committee at Manatee Memorial Hospital as well as the board of trustees at HCA South Shore Hospital. She has the distinguished honor of being named a Top Doctor in Sarasota Magazine for several years running. In her free time, she enjoys tennis, yoga, cooking, and traveling.
Dr. Daniel Celaya
Dr. Daniel Celaya trained in nephrology at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He has over 30 years of experience. He has been certified 3 times by the American Board of Medical Specialties in nephrology. He is a former vice chief of medicine at South Bay Hospital. He has served several years on the medical executive committee at Manatee Memorial Hospital, had served on multiple committees, is intimately involved in teaching medical students and residents at both Manatee Memorial and HCA Florida Blake Hospitals. His favorite area of interest is ICU Nephrology. He is bilingual in Spanish. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and watching football.
